Phylum Coniferophyta consists of evergreens, red woods, pines, cypress and junipers. They produce naked seeds in cones, soft wood, and have needle like leaves. Their seeds are borne on the surface of woody scales and the overlaps form a cone. Some of these species, especially pines, need fire to germinate seeds and produce offspring.
